Grandpa's Story

The 1950s


In the 1950s in West Frankfort Illinois my grandpa James Rufus Lindsey sold Barbecue every weekend on a corner lot in a neighborhood called the "dog patch". He had a simple cinder block pit with tin for the sides and top. The burn pile for charcoal was just an old barrel turned on its side. He only used hickory and cherry wood scraps from a sawmill down the road. His sauce was vinegar and tomato based with a mild flavor. My Daddy was the carhop, fire tender and gopher as a kid. Dad said cars were always lined up around the corner...

Grandpa eventually became the head chef in a large hotel in the Chicago area and left barbecue behind. He did however win several awards for his sauce over the years. This is ths same recipe that we use today for our original hot and mild sauces, and is the base for many of our new versions as well. 

The Next Generation


In 1980, my Dad James Wilson Lindsey Sr. opened his own barbecue restaurant. He served pulled pork sandwiches, Chicken & Ribs, homemade side dishes, and of course Grandpas Family Recipe sauce! After our little town dried up, he closed  shop and retired from the barbecue business. It is always been my dream to continue what he started. I have an updated menu and New Direction for the Barbecue. This is for you Dad!
